 Engineering / Estimating - Jim Smith Contracting prides itself in being on the forefront of engineering technology. We have expanded our engineering department with the addition of several key members and with the purchase of stakeless grading technology. We have also taken technology into the office with AutoCAD, Terramodel, Heavy Bid, and Agtek software to estimate jobs. This powerful software helps us calculate cost and in turn deliver a job on-time and within budget
If you have visited a construction site in the last 50 years you have no doubt seen a forest of stakes with numbers written all over them. These stakes let the laborers and operators know what the job is suppose to 'look' like. Jim Smith Contracting has taken a leading role in stakeless technology with the purchase of several pieces of equipment in the last few construction seasons. This equipment runs off of GPS or Robotic Total Stations and requires only a few control points throughout the job to operate. This lets Jim Smith Contracting perform jobs faster and more cost efficient.
This new technology, coupled with our AutoCAD and Terramodel software, enables our engineering department to work more efficiently and provide our customers with the best and most accurate layouts and surveys.
We currently have stakeless technology on a CMI Trimmer and a Caterpillar 14H grader. This equipment allows us to finish grade the mainline, shoulders, ditches, and slopes.
We have also taken technology to parking lots and storm water systems with the addition of laser levels and pipe laser systems. With these units Jim Smith Contracting personnel can quickly and accurately set grades and alignments on pipes, earthwork, and aggregates.
