 Quality Control - Jim Smith Contracting believes quality is first and foremost in today's business environment. Jim Smith Contracting subjects its asphalts and aggregates to all of the testing required by the State of Kentucky or as a job specifies. When you buy from us, know that you are getting top quality mixes and mix designs that will last.
Even before the first ton of mix is made, our Quality Control Manager has devised and tested a mix design to meet the specification of the job. Once the mix goes to the job, several in-house and field tests are ran to determine the properties of the asphalt. Some of these in-house tests are determining density, air voids, and max gravity. Field testing consists of determining the density with a nuclear density gauge and coring samples to take back to the lab. These tests determine the quality and durablity of the mix.
Our Quality Control staff is comprised of many highly trained and state certified workers. This allows Jim Smith Contracting to design and produce asphalts for federal, state, and local governments
